What I've learned about Blogging...

Wow...I've learned a lot over the last few weeks. In addition to learning how to create and post in a blog, I also learned to add pictures, videos and etc. I'm not sure how to best use it in my classroom...I am open to ideas. Maybe a book club????

Classroom Expectations

Many times I teach in the K-6 classrooms, so  the kids follow their normal classroom rules and expectations.

However, my expectations are:
1. Follow directions 1st time given.
2. Treat others with respect and kindness.

I also use the Daily 5 in my classroom (Read to Self, Read to Someone, Work on Writing, Listen to Reading, Word Work). I have I charts (Independence charts) that I use with students to show what is expected of them as they work on these 5 tasks. For example:

Read to Self
- get started right away
- stay in 1 spot
- read the whole time
- read quietly
- work on stamina

Introduction

My name is Cristin Fischer and I currently work at Twin Ridge Elementary. I am a reading specialist and teach K-6 reading. I previously taught kindergarten at Birchcrest Elementary for 7 years.  I went to undergraduate school at South Dakota State University (Brookings, SD) and Northern State University (Aberdeen, SD). I got my Master's degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha. I am currently working on a Library Media Endorsement from University of Nebraska Kearney. I am married and have a 4 year old son.

I do not have a great deal of experience with technology, but am trying to keep and learn as much as I can. I just recently got a smart phone and don't think that I can live without it. I also just recently took two classes on how to Twitter! I am primarily a PC person. I don't use alot of technology in my classroom. I use the netbooks on an occasional basis. I use the rover cart/document camera when presenting to other teachers.
